Barr Kicking Tail Trail
by Selia
(Colorado Springs)
Yesterday June 5th I went for it. My goal was to reach Barr Camp before noon. I turned back at 12:18 shy of reaching Barr Camp. It is the smartest thing I did - because half way down again my toes were not feeling very good.
I thought my shoes were going to be ok - I'd been on other hikes, but this is an "animal". A beautiful, BREATHTAKING hike - which I will do again. It is well worth the feeling of accomplishment and tail kicking.
Happy to live in Colorado Springs - finally.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Thanks, Selia, for sharing your Barr Trail experience! You're right, that is one tough trail. And it really does take your breath away. Clearly the highest in altitude of all the Colorado Springs hiking trails (Barr Camp rests at 10,200 feet above sea level). But the views and the experience are well worth the effort. For those who want to follow in Selia's footsteps, remember to bring lots of water, and be ready for a 6.5 mile trek up a 3,800 vertical gain. Congrats!
