Breckenridge Ski Resort

Loveland Ski Area

The Breckenridge Ski Resort is the most popular ski resort in all of North America, and its only a two hour drive from Colorado Springs.

Over 1.6 million visitors visit annually, due to the wide variety of skiing and riding, high-quality lifts, and excellent apres ski options.

You will regularly see Breckenridge Ski Resort on “Top 10” lists around the world.Often referred to as “Breck,” this resort gets its name from its home town, Breckenridge, Colorado, located in Summit County, at 9,600 feet above sea level.

The top summit of this resort is just shy of 13,000 feet, and is serviced by the Imperial Lift, which is also the highest lift in North America, servicing up to 12, 840 feet.

The ski area itself consists of over 2,300 skiable acres made up of 155 different runs including 25 acres are terrain park. And 30 lifts get you to where you want to go, including a gondola and two 6-passenger superchairs.

The best statistic of all is that they receive 300 inches of natural champagne powder annually.

Check out this video of a great powder day at Breck. Also known as "freshie pow-pow" and "sick snow." I love to see skiiers and riders making their way through the fluffy stuff. Even five or six inches can brighten your day.

The different ski areas are referred to by the inter-connected mountain peaks that make up the Summit County Ten Mile Range, and contain the following terrain:

Peak 10 – difficult and intermediate
Peak 9 – some expert, mostly intermediate and beginner
Peak 8 – mostly intermediate, some advanced, back bowl
Peak 7 – very steep bowls, glade skiing, intermediate

Four different base areas service the different peaks. Best to get a map, and make a plan to choose which free shuttle you’ll be taking to start the day. It will allow you to enjoy prime skiing and riding at Breck.

Better yet, take the resort up on one of their free mountain tours. Once you get the lay of the land, you’ll be enjoying yourself in no time.

Town with Ski Area in Background, Breckenridge, CO

We’ve been told that, like most popular ski areas, and due to its title of “most popular,” Breckenridge ski resort sees a tremendous amount of traffic on the weekends. Expect long lift lines around noon on a Saturday.

We’ve also heard that Peak 7 is usually the last peak of the mountain to get traffic, so if it’s possible, give Peak 7 a shot mid-week and right away in the morning if you like to ski fresh courdoroy without the crowds.

Monte Cristo and Angel’s Nest are rumored to be some of the best intermediate runs out there.
