Colorado Hot Springs:
The Springs Resort in Pagosa Springs

This Colorado hot springs resort in the southwest part of the state is a good 4 hours from Colorado Springs, but the experience is worth the drive.

The Springs Resort is located in the city of Pagosa Springs, a quiet little town with a mellow vibe.

And smack dab in the center of downtown is this odd place that smells like sulphur and sits right on the edge of the San Juan River.

This was our first Colorado hot springs experience, and what a great one. Eighteen (18) hot pools are situated along the riverbank, with varying temperatures and sizes to fit your desires.

They just recently opened 5 new deluxe soaking pools, so make that a total of 23 springs.

Colorado Hot Springs With names like Tranquility and Paradise, you can imagine what type of experience you’ll have.

Watch out, though, for the Lobster Pot. It’s a hot one. Only for the brave.

You can also sit right down next to the river in pools like The Burg, that get you up close and personal with cold water, river rock, and 20-inch trout.

Across the river, you can see restaurants and shops because you are located right downtown.

The minerals in these hot springs left us feeling like our skin was vibrating. If you can handle the sulphur smell (once you’re there for a while you don’t even notice it) you’ll have a great time.

Natural minerals at these springs include: sodium, potassium, magnesium, silica, and more.

Now that we’ve been to several different Colorado hot springs, we can say that The Springs Resort is definitely of the highest quality when it comes to an overall experience.

From the clean, modern locker rooms and showers, to the lighted layout of the pools, and even the variety of pools themselves, we find this to be the best in Colorado hot springs so far.

If you enjoy a more rustic hot springs experience, you’ll probably pick a different place. But that’s half the fun. Visit as many as you can and let us know what you think!

Our favorite pool here is “the waterfall” where you can stand beneath a cascade of mineral water and literally feel the tension melt away from your shoulders, neck and back. Amazing.

Insider Tip: we recommend skipping the robe rental in the winter, as it will freeze as soon as you leave it hanging on a nearby post or chair, and that makes for a pretty chilly wrap when you’re ready to head to the next hot pool. We say, just brave it and make your way to the next pool!

Also: drink plenty of fresh water.

If you can, stay until nightfall to watch the sunset from The Sunset Social Club pool, and soak in the eerie turquoise glow of the pools as they’re lit up at night.

They do offer a large, cool water swimming pool for kids and families to splash around in, and if you’re looking to make this a weekend escape, or romantic getaway, they have a variety of rooms and suites to choose from.

This would be a fantastic destination combined with a trip to nearby Wolf Creek Ski Area, only 15 minutes away.

Getting there: From Colorado Springs, take I-25 south for 90 miles. Go west on CO-160 for 159 miles into Pagosa Springs. Turn left at Hot Springs Blvd.
