Best Colorado Springs Hiking Trail for Vacationers
Our favorite Colorado Springs hiking trail for vacationers is called “The Siamese Twins” trail, and it’s located within the Garden of the Gods park. We think this trail is perfect for vacationers for several reasons:
The Siamese Twins trail is named after the twin sandstone rock formations at the top of the trail loop. Massive red monoliths form a unique, natural frame of Pikes Peak. We liked it so much, we put it on the top of this website. The surrounding scenery of this Colorado Springs hiking trail is stunning. You get an awesome overview of all the beauty to be seen in the area. From the Siamese Twins trail, you can see Pikes Peak, the Manitou Incline, Cheyenne Mountain, and several of the other Garden of the Gods rock formations including Kissing Camels.
***INSIDER TIP: Photographs here are best taken in the morning, when the light is coming in from the east. Afternoons are difficult for photos of the mountains because the light is coming from the same direction (west) and you’ll get glare in your lens. *** This trail is an easy 1 mile loop, and it only gains 150 feet. This is helpful if you are here on vacation from a lower altitude, as you shouldn’t get winded or dizzy due to less oxygen up here in these parts. In the summer the sun can get hot, though, so bring lots of water and some shades or a hat. Directions… you can reach the Siamese Twins trail two ways. From the park’s Gateway Road entrance, you’ll turn right onto Juniper Way Loop. At the next fork, take a right onto Garden Drive to the Spring Canon parking lot, where the loop begins and ends. Or, you can continue on Garden Drive, and take a left on Garden Lane past the Trading Post, up to the Scotsman Picnic Area parking lot. Across the street from this lot is the Palmer Trail. Take Palmer Trail to the left (south) until it connects with the Siamese Twins loop. This is a family-friendly, dog-friendly, horse-friendly trail. Pretty friendly! We think you’ll enjoy it. There are several picnic areas in the park, and restroom facilities too. So it might be a great place for a hike and a picnic lunch. You can always choose another Colorado Springs hiking trail—feel free to check out our hiking trails page--but Siamese Twins is a fantastic place to start out and get a “feel” for the land. Don’t forget your camera! |
