Colorado Springs Ute Valley Park:rattle snakes!

by Lance
(Colorado springs co)

If you're an adventure person that likes to hike a lot, Ute Valley park is the place for you! Although you might see signs that says "Caution: Rattle Snakes." Well I just recently found a rattle snake 2 inches from my shoe and it striked--thankfully it was small and struck my shoe but the smaller the more venom they have. Just be aware of your surroundings.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Lance, you bring up a very important point about Ute Valley Park. We were a little wary of the rattlesnake signs when we first arrived, but it's always better to be safe than sorry. This Colorado Springs park is really great because of all the varied terrain--from meadows to woods, there is even a marshy pond complete with ducks! But a large portion of trails are comprised of flat rocks and rocky ledges, which snakes LOVE to sunbathe on. And if you're hiking or riding your mountain bike too close, you might experience the rattle. Just keep your eyes and ears open and keep a phone on you in case you need help. We haven't seen any snakes yet, and we've hiked there dozens of times, but they're definitely out there. Have fun and be safe!
