First Time Up The Incline!

by Bryttani
(Florida )

So, I live over in the eastern part of the USA.
This summer, I was visiting my sister and her husband asked me if I wanted to hike up the Incline. I finally said yes and we woke up that morning around 7:30 and walked to the entrance of the Incline.

Since I was no acclimated, I got out of breath pretty fast. If you are physically fit, I say this would be pretty easy for you. I saw people running up the steep steps and other people stopping on the side to catch their breath.

I finished the hike in 2 hours (I took quite a few breaks in the beginning). It took about an hour to go back down. I didn't go down the same way I went up, there is another way to get back down the mountain.

Anyways, it was a really good experience. I now look up the Incline and smile because I actually did it and didn't quit. I highly recommend hiking it!

EDITOR'S NOTE: Hey Bryttani, thanks for your review of the Manitou Incline! Sounds like you had a nice adventure. The way you got back down the mountain was called Barr Trail, and if you would have continued in an upward direction, you would have made it to the summit of Pikes Peak! But maybe another day. We've actually seen hikers run back down the Incline's railroad ties, which always makes me cringe because there's not much room for error. Sounds like you approached the Incline perfectly, though, taking your time, enjoying the views, and facing the challenge. We're especially impressed since you came from such low altitude in beautiful Florida. Congrats!
