Garden of the Gods Trading Post

When you first approach the Garden of the Gods Trading Post, it appears somewhat small, almost like a traditional Pueblo Indian home, which was the original builder's intention back in the early 1900s.

But upon entering, you'll see that it's actually quite large inside. And has much more to offer than you might realize.

Located on the south side of Garden of the Gods park just past Balanced Rock, the Trading Post has plenty to explore. So give yourself some time.

In the front section is the gift center. If you love to shop, or are looking for Colorado souvenirs, you will have found your place, as there are literally thousands of Colorado-related items to browse through.

Garden of the Gods Trading Post Many items are inspired or created by Native Americans, and include fetishes, art mugs, and specially designed walking/hiking staffs.

You'll also find books about Colorado Springs and the Rocky Mountains, key chains, pens, polished rocks, and even jellies and sauces.

To the left is where you'll find apparel. T-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, and my favorite, the cowboy hats.

We bought a Shady Brady hat there six years ago when first visiting Colorado Springs and it's still in great condition. The trading post sells quality stuff, from hand-made, crushable, straw hats to waxed leather.

If you head straight to the back, that's where the true treasures lie. Because the Garden of the Gods Trading Post is home to Colorado's oldest and largest art gallery.

Throughout the buyable collection you'll find pots, jewelry, paintings, sculptures, and an internationally acclaimed Navajo rug collection.

Our favorite part about visiting the Garden of the Gods Trading Post has always been the Native American flute music that is often playing throughout the building. These flutes are also available for purchase, along with instructional DVDs on how to play them.

In the rear of the building is the Balanced Rock Cafe, aptly named due to its proximity to the most photographed rock in the Garden of the Gods park.

Garden of the Gods Trading Post You can enjoy Buffalo burgers and chili, salads, gourmet coffee, and more. You also have the choice of sitting outside on their creek-side patio, which we highly recommend.

Plenty of trees provide shade, but you also have some great views of Pikes Peak.

The Garden of the Gods Trading Post also offers a full-service meeting facility with their Peak View Conference Center, with both indoor and outdoor venues. Catering, A/V, and dance floor are available for business meetings and private celebrations.

Whatever brings you to the Garden of the Gods, the trading post is a nice stop-off for souvenirs, a snack, or just to browse some wonderful art and listen to the haunting flute music.
