About a 2.5 hour drive from Colorado Springs is the roadside oddity: UFO Watchtower.
Located in Hooper, Colorado, it's smack in the middle of the San Luis Valley, where strange things have been known to happen.
Overlooking the Great Sand Dunes and the Sangre de Cristo mountains, the UFO Watchtower just feels like it's in touch with another world.
The dome building and lookout deck add to its unusual ambiance, and then there's the outdoor healing garden...
According to the owner, Judy Messoline, psychics who've visited the outdoor garden say it is the location of two major inter-dimensional vortexes.
And these are protected by large spirit beings who are also here to help earthlings.
Scattered throughout the garden are pens, hubcaps, watches, and jewelry.
Inside the dome, alien souvenirs abound, as well as newspaper articles on UFO sightings.
Photo albums full of pictures of UFO sightings in Colorado are also available to view.
The week we went happened to be shortly after the MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) UFOlympics meeting, and members had actually seen UFOs near the watchtower.
While we were there, she was happy to show us the latest photographs of UFO activity--amorphous blobs of light that were exactly as the acronym describes them: unidentified flying objects.Judy also has copies of her book "That Crazy Lady Down the Road" telling her story about the creation of the watchtower, which was originally built to help supplement her income after cattle ranching didn't work out.
She doesn't charge a fee to visit the Watchtower, but does take donations. Their website is: www.ufowatchtower.com
Located 2¹/² miles N.of Hooper, CO on HWY 17
While in the area, make sure to visit Great Sand Dunes National Park and nearby San Luis Valley State Park.
Whether or not you're a UFO believer, this makes for one unique day trip or getaway in Colorado.
