Barr Trail

by Chris Pickering
(C Springs)

I just did the entire Barr Trail two days ago and it was F'ing hard! 14er people say Pikes Peak is easy but to do 26 miles altogether in one day and gain 7,300 vertical ft. I thought it was super hard. I suppose if you stayed at Barr camp it would drastically effect the difficulty. It took me minutes under 12 hours but with amazing scenery besides fat tourists at the summit! =] My first 14er, now I want more!

EDITOR'S NOTE: Congratulations, Chris, on making it to the summit of Pikes Peak! Sounds like you're hooked on 14ers now. Rumor has it that Pikes Peak is one of the toughest because it's such a long trail. I guess the others are much shorter. But major kudos to you for doing the full 26 miles. I just made it to the summit my first time this summer and it took me over 7 hours! Once you get above tree line, it's a whole different monster. Way to go.

Queen's Canyon Punch Bowls unavailable

by Becky
(Colorado Springs, CO)

We attempted to sign in at the guard station and were told to go online to reserve a time. They are closed to the public on weekends unless you are a paying guest of the Glen. The rest of the summer is booked M-Thurs. There were a couple of dates left before school starts but not enough vacancies to allow for a family of 4 to hike. So sad that we can't take our kiddos on this hike that is so close to our home!

EDITOR'S NOTE: Thanks, Becky, for giving us the heads up on their new policies! Queens Canyon is obviously growing in popularity. And we can see why--it's an amazing trail with so many rock formations and waterfalls. Hope you get to visit again soon. We have updated this information on our "Colorado Springs Hiking Trails - Moderate" page. You can find their new online reservation form for trails here: http://www.gleneyrie.org/hiking

Thanks again!
