Colorado Family Vacation

A Colorado family vacation truly is the best kind of family vacation.

Maybe we’re biased here, but Colorado has so many things to do, it might be impossible for your family to be bored.

And there is so much natural beauty here, even car rides are entertaining.

If you plan to spend your Colorado family vacation in and around Colorado Springs, then here are some things to consider.

If you’re flying in, we recommend Denver International Airport for the best rates, and Colorado Springs Airport for the most convenience.

Also, we’ve had great luck with Avis for car rentals. We suggest a V6 and all-wheel drive for safe travels through the mountains and dealing with mountain weather.

You’ll need a place to stay, so check out our lodging picks, or just go straight to the hotels page. If you’re hoping for a more rustic experience, cabin rentals are the way to go.

When you’ve got the necessary details out of the way,
IT'S TIME TO HAVE SOME FUN.

A great way to spend time with families outdoors is on many of our city’s fine hiking trails. They are free, the views are incredible, and there are several places for picnics and photos.

You’ll likely see wildlife on the hiking trails. Mule deer, squirrels, rabbits, snakes, and maybe even a fox if you’re lucky. We do have bears and mountain lions in these parts, but sightings are rare. These trails often double as a great place to go mountain biking.

Other top family outdoor activities to consider:

If you want to up the ante on family entertainment, Colorado Springs has plenty of attractions. Some top destinations that both adults and kids will enjoy:

When your family gets hungry from running around at high altitude, you’ll have plenty of restaurants to choose from. The Wines of Colorado up in Cascade has an outdoor deck next to a mountain stream and serves great burgers--perfect after a day trip at Pikes Peak.

Or try a Colorado City Creamery ice cream sundae in Old Colorado City and pick up some souvenirs at nearby shops. For a unique family dining experience, try visiting the Flying W Ranch where you can enjoy chuckwagon suppers, games, and cowboy music.

If you want to tour the state for your Colorado family vacation, we might highly suggest these totally awesome locations. They’re easy to get to, since Colorado Springs is centrally located:

Rocky Mountain National Park is the ultimate in mountain scenery. Over sixty 12,000 foot peaks! See massive elk up close.

Great Sand Dunes National Park has 700 foot high sand dunes and a surging creek at its base. Don’t miss this weird and wonderful place.

Mt Princeton Hot Springs in Buena Vista has a huge heated pool, hot soaking pool, hot springs in the Chalk Creek, and a new water slide. Something for everyone here.

Denver is the capitol city of Colorado where you can visit the Downtown Aquarium, Art Museum, Coors Field, or 16th Street Mall.

And what better way for a family to get around Colorado than in an RV? Check out this cool Colorado RV Trip Itinerary if you like to travel in style.

Hope this gets you started on your Colorado family vacation. Have a great time, and don’t forget your camera!
