Travel Guide for Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak Area

Colorado Skiing the best in the world

Colorado skiing

Colorado has arguably the best skiing on the planet.

Some say it’s the Alps, some say Japan, some even say the mountains of South America.

But when the snow flies in Colorado, skiing is world-class no matter which resort or skiing area you visit in the state.

Being in Colorado Springs can be a blessing and a curse for skiers. It’s a blessing because you are less than 2 hours from the world’s best skiing and snowboarding. And it’s a curse because you have to drive almost 2 hours to get to the world’s best skiing and snowboarding.

While Pikes Peak doesn’t offer a ski area, there are plenty of choices if you’re willing to drive a ways in almost any direction.

The most popular places for Colorado skiing are west of Denver along the I-70 highway corridor.

There you will find the closest ski area to Colorado Springs, Echo Mountain.

And just west of that follows Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, and Keystone. If you drive just north from there, you can reach Eldora, Winter Park, and SolVista.

Further west of that you’ll find Copper, Breckenridge, SkiCooper, and the behemoths Vail and Beaver Creek. Colorado Skiing - driving I-70 These can also be reached by taking Hwy 24 west out of Colorado Springs to 9 north.

If you want to get way back in the mountains past Vail, you can go past the town of Eagle and south on 82 to reach Snowmass, Buttermilk, Aspen Mountain and Aspen Highlands.

One gem of a mountain close to Colorado Springs that seems rarely visited is Monarch Mountain.

Monarch is a smaller ski area, but the snow is unbelievable, and due to its location just west of Salida (about 2 hours west-southwest), the crowds are small. This combination makes for an excellent Colorado skiing experience. Especially if you're skiing on a budget.

If you like the feel & vibe of Monarch, you’ll very likely enjoy Wolf Creek Ski Area as well. They are known for getting “the most snow in Colorado."

Colorado Skiing Wolf Creek Ski Area gets huge amounts of powder and has a family-friendly attitude. You just have to drive 4 hours southwest near Pagosa Springs to get there.

Once you’re in the southwest region of Colorado, skiing can also be experienced in nearby resorts Durango Mountain (Purgatory), Silverton, and Telluride.

No matter which place you choose, you’ll be in Colorado, with bluebird skies and champagne powder. So no worries. Hope you have a great time skiing in Colorado.
