Colorado Springs MotelsThe Colorado Springs motels along on the west side of town near Manitou Springs have an ambiance all their own. Driving along Colorado Ave is like a trip back to the 60's, or a scene from the movie National Lampoon’s Vacation. Many of these motels are vintage kitsch, and they seem to celebrate in this. You almost feel like a convoy of wood-paneled station wagons pulling Airstream trailers is due to arrive at any moment. Campy signage and colorful buildings line the avenue with names like Sunflower, The Silver Saddle, Mountainscape, Maverick, and The Timber Lodge.
Let’s face it, these are cheap places to stay, so if you aren’t looking for 5-star service, these might do just fine.
Also, due to the location of these motels, the views are stunning. They're only a mile or two from the base of the foothills and Pikes Peak, so mountain scenery is plentiful. You can see the Manitou Incline from most of them, and being in such close proximity to a cool little mountain town like Manitou Springs is a good thing.
To keep the kitsch factor going, try visiting the nearby Manitou Arcade, which is kind of like visiting Atlantic City in the Rocky Mountains. Major attractions like the Pikes Peak Cog Railway and Garden of the Gods are also in close proximity.
Some of these Colorado Springs motels, like the El Colorado, are really a collection of tiny cabins. Others are classic drive-up motels. One story, two stories. Hot Tubs. Cable TV. Air Conditioning! Take your pick. Here are a few of the unique Colorado Springs motels on the west side:
