Visiting Cappadocia: The Perfect Itinerary

The fairytale-like Cappadocia in Turkey is one of those places that many travelers long to visit and hope to see someday. Perhaps, it is one of the most beautiful places in the country! Not only is it a unique landscape brought about by volcanic activity, but the views that can be seen from the sky every morning are especially spectacular. In the town of Goreme in Cappadocia, dozens of hot air balloons take off at dawn. From every corner, the balloons appear in the sky as the bright dots slowly rise. It is a magical and beautiful experience, and the phenomenal sight will be remembered forever.

What to See in Cappadocia?

1) Watch Hot Air Balloons

There is one thing you absolutely must do in Cappadocia, and that is watch a hot air balloon. They are the main reason many travelers go to Cappadocia. And you can’t blame them! The sight of so many hot air balloons slowly rising in the early morning light, the sky becoming increasingly colored with the occasional glowing balloon, is genuinely one of the most beautiful and inspiring things you can see on your trip.

2) Pasabag

One of the most photogenic places in Cappadocia is Pasabag. This is not only because of the unusual shape of the rock found there, which some lovingly call “mushroom rocks” or “fairy chimneys. Even amongst all the crazy rocks, there is something incredible. People used to live in the caves here, and the so-called church is the most beautiful. It is the chapel and shelter of San Simeon. Once you see it, you will understand why it is so beautiful, and you can still climb inside.

3) Sleeping in a Cave Hotel

There is a reason there are cave hotels in Cappadocia. For centuries, the inhabitants of Cappadocia did not live in ordinary houses but in large spaces inside caves. The rocks in this area are pretty soft, which gave rise to these spaces. Also, the climate (very hot in summer and quite cold in winter) made living in caves an obvious choice. This helped to keep the environment cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Walking around Cappadocia, you will notice that many places have hotels, stores, and restaurants in the caves. No Cappadocia experience is complete without staying in a cave hotel!

4) Hot Air Balloon Ride

Let’s go on a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia! This is another thing many people wish to do. Of course, watching a hot air balloon take off from a terrace or vantage point is nice, but if you have the budget, we recommend trying a hot air balloon flight at least once. Watching the preparation of the hot air balloons up close is special, but sitting in a basket suspended from the hot air balloon and taking off into the sky is amazing. Your guide will supply the hot air with fire, and you can fully enjoy the changing scenery while the hot air balloon rises higher and higher. It’s an unforgettable experience!

How Much Does a Hot Air Balloon Ride in Cappadocia Cost?

Depending on your group, you can find balloon flights from 175 to 250 euros.

When Can You Go on a Hot Air Balloon Trip?

As a rule, hot air balloons fly all year round, so they are available in summer and winter. The only thing hot air balloons rely on is the wind. If the wind is in the wrong direction, they cannot fly, but in principle, it has nothing to do with the season.

5) Discovering Goreme

When you visit Cappadocia, you will generally sleep in Goreme. It is a small town, but it was built for travelers and tourists, so it has a fairly good selection of stores and restaurants. If you want to buy souvenirs, we recommend looking in a few stores here, but be sure to try out the different stores. There are also some lovely places to eat in the evening, and there are cafes as well.
