The Most Beautiful Lakes in Germany

Germany is a beautiful country with charming cities, exciting culture, and beautiful landscapes. Besides, its lakes make an ideal holiday destination for a summer or weekend getaway. You can take lovely walks, cycle around the German lakes or enjoy various water sports, such as sailing, fishing or boating. Eibsee

The most beautiful lake, which takes the top spot, is Eibsee. It is a hidden lake near the Zugspitz, Germany’s highest mountain. Although it is not big, it is considered the most beautiful lake in Germany. It is surrounded by beautiful scenery and high mountains and has crystal clear water. There is plenty to do in and around the lake. For example, you can hire a kayak, a rowing boat, or a pedal boat. There is also a restaurant in Eibsee where you can grab a bite and a beautiful hiking trail for hikers. The 7,5 km long hiking trail leads around the lake through beautiful forests and crystal clear water. However, during the summer months, the lake can get very busy.

Rursee

This lake is located in the middle of the Eifel National Park. There are many water sports you can carry out, such as sailing, fishing, kayaking and of course swimming. A sailing school is also available around. The area is also ideal for other activities such as hiking and cycling. The walk around Rursee is about 24 kilometers long and offers a magnificent view of the lake. You can also shorten part of the walking route by taking the turbo boat. A pleasant place on the shores of the Rursee is Rurberg. Here you will find cozy terraces and lovely shops.

Titisee

Lake Titisee is located in the Black Forest in Germany. This lake is a beautiful place to cool off during a Black Forest holiday. The clear lake is made up of water from the Feldberg glacier and  the area around is very green and mountainous, making it ideal for hiking as well. You will certainly not get bored, as there is plenty to do. You can sail, surf, or kayak on the lake. During the summer months, the atmosphere is more delightful. There are restaurants and other eateries on several promenades and you can also find many excellent beaches and campsites around the lake. If the weather isn’t so great for a day out, but you still want to go swimming, you can visit the spa paradise of the Black Forest. This spa paradise is located near Lake Titisee and has several pools, white watercourses, and slides!

Lake Constance

Lake Constance is located in the south of Germany, in the state of Baden-Württemberg. This popular tourist destination is the largest lake in Germany and is divided into the Obersee and the Untersee. The Bodensee area offers a pleasant mix of historic towns, beautiful sights, and beautiful nature. When visiting the lake, the city, Friedrichshafen is not to be missed. Graf von Zeppelin, the inventor of the mighty airship, was born in this city. You can learn more about his history at the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen.

There are several islands in Lake Constance, Reichenau, Lindau, and Mainau. These are stunning islands and well worth a visit. The island of Mainau has many tropical flowers, plants, and animals, whereas baroque churches and a harbor characterize the island of Lindau. In addition to these cultural attractions, you can, of course, also relax completely on or near the water in Lake Constance. You will find several beaches where you can rent kayaks, surfboards, and boats.
